Mutual fund basics

What is a mutual fund?

A mutual fund pools money from investors and invests it according to a scheme’s stated objective and portfolio rules. Each scheme has different risks, costs and terms; read its current SID, KIM, SAI and Riskometer before investing.

Can mutual funds guarantee returns?

No. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and are not guaranteed. Your investment value can rise or fall, and you may lose some or all of your capital. Past performance does not assure future results.

What does the mutual fund Riskometer tell me?

The Riskometer displays a scheme’s assessed risk level on a scale from Low to Very High. It is one input for understanding scheme risk; it does not predict returns or remove the need to read the scheme documents.

Plans, costs and investing methods

What is the difference between a Regular Plan and a Direct Plan?

Both plans belong to the same scheme and common portfolio, but their expense ratios differ. A Regular Plan includes distribution expenses and may pay commission to the distributor; a Direct Plan excludes distributor commission and generally has a lower expense ratio. Compare the current scheme costs and decide which route suits your needs.

What is an SIP? Does it protect me from losses?

A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is a way to invest a chosen amount at regular intervals. It can help automate contributions, but does not assure returns, prevent losses or make an unsuitable scheme suitable.

Is a SIP better than a one-time investment?

Neither method is universally better. They differ in timing and cash-flow pattern. The right question depends on your circumstances, investment horizon, risk capacity and the scheme’s risks; no calculator can predict future market returns.

How is a mutual fund distributor paid?

For investments through a Regular Plan, an AMC may pay trail commission to an empanelled distributor from scheme expenses, subject to applicable rules. Rates vary by scheme and arrangement. Review the specific distributor’s current commission disclosures and the scheme’s expense information.

Documents, service and tools

What do SID, SAI and KIM mean?

The Scheme Information Document (SID) sets out scheme-specific terms, the Statement of Additional Information (SAI) contains fund-wide information, and the Key Information Memorandum (KIM) summarizes key details. Review the current versions and applicable addenda before investing.

Can Ramesh recommend securities or provide investment-adviser services?

Ramesh Biswas M is presented here as an AMFI Registered Mutual Fund Distributor offering distribution and investor education. This website does not offer SEBI-registered investment-adviser services, stock recommendations, portfolio management or assured-return advice.

How do I raise a service concern?

First contact the relevant distributor, AMC or Registrar and Transfer Agent using the verified service route and keep the acknowledgment. For an eligible securities-market grievance that remains unresolved, check SEBI’s current SCORES process and scope. SCORES is not automatically available for every dispute.

Are the website calculators forecasts?

No. They are arithmetic illustrations based on the assumptions you enter. They do not forecast investment returns, account for every fee or tax, recommend a scheme, or guarantee that a financial goal will be reached.

Can I send KYC or bank documents through this website?

No. Do not submit PAN, Aadhaar, bank details, passwords or one-time passwords through this portfolio website. Use the AMC, RTA or other verified secure onboarding channel for account and KYC work.
